Life Boats

Lifeboats for bigger vessels, like cargo ships and tankers, require a bigger rescue boat that can quickly drop into the water in case of emergency.

Euro Offshore distributes the following lifeboats: freefall lifeboats, enclosed lifeboats and partly enclosed lifeboats.

A freefall lifeboat that is totally enclosed is commonly placed on the stern in a downward facing position and when released, dives into the water. For this reason the boat needs to be a lot stronger to survive the impact into the water. A partly enclosed life boat needs to be lowered by a davit, since the boat is not totally closed. Advantages of a partly enclosed life boat are the lower weight and better accessibility in case of an emergency.

Free Fall Life Boats

All freefall lifeboats produced at Euro Offshore are made of fireproof glass fiber reinforced polyester (GRP) and are injected with foam in certain areas to assure buoyancy and strength. Extra strengthening is built into the bow, to absorb the forces of the water during diving. Since 2006 all bulk carriers are required to carry freefall lifeboats and the ones on tankers also need to be fireproof. Therefore, two types of lifeboats are produced at Euro offshore.
